Ground Control to Rocketeers! Ready for takeoff?

Spend your birthday party building Bottle Rockets with your friends at Action Potential Lab. We'll provide all of the materials necessary from drafting a prototype to the final launch of your very own homemade rocket. This party is designed for each of your guests to build their own rockets in the lab and then shoot off them off in the park across the street. All of your guests will go home with their very own rocket prototypes that they will be able to set up and launch over and over again at home.

Theme: Drum up some DNA

Calling all future geneticists! Ever wonder what DNA actually looks like? Now here’s your chance!

First we will go over the basic biology of DNA and why it is so important. Your guests will then get to extract and actually see and touch strawberry DNA! We will lead them step-by-step through the DNA extraction process that will produce a test tube full of strawberry DNA, that they will be able to take home to show family and friends!

Theme: Rubber Band Cannons ***Note: This theme is only available from May to September***

Bubble, fizz and erupt! These are the sounds you’ll hear all throughout this super fun, interactive birthday party.

Following a brief introduction to the science behind volcanoes, each child will be led in a step-by-step process to build their own volcano diorama by making their own play-doh (wheat based), shaping it into a volcano, and then decorating it with craft materials that we provide. After the diorama has been complete, the group will learn what happens when acids and bases mix, as we use these materials create mini eruptions in our volcanos. All guests will get to take home their volcano dioramas for endless amounts of eruption fun.

Theme: Build a Drawing Robot

This birthday activity incorporates all of the key components of our lab: engineering, electronics, art and design.

During this party, Each child will build their own robotic drawing machine using small battery powered motors, markers and a variety of upcycled materials. The result - a hilariously absurd mechanical drawing robot that is endless amounts of fun.

Theme: The Science + Art of Food: Sorbet

Who says that you can't play with your food?

In this birthday activity, we turn the laboratory into a kitchen and create homemade sorbet and DIY soda pop using dry ice! The party involves a brief lesson in dry ice and then right into some hands-on food making. With some elbow grease and some shaking, rattling and rolling, each child will get to taste their creations during this delicious party.

Theme: Squishy Circuits

This birthday activity is all about combining the things we love: pickles, play-dough and circuits!

First we’ll learn about how circuits work by using pickles, yes you read that correctly. Then, we’ll graduate onto using play-dough as a conductive material. Finally, we’ll incorporate electronics such as LEDs and buzzers with craft materials such as feathers, pipe cleaners, straws and sticks to create marvelous illuminating pieces of art. Each child will go home with their very own colourful electronic sculpture.

Theme: Owl Pellet Dissections

In this party theme, your party guests will learn about food chains and prey vs predator relationships by doing their very owl pellet dissection, otherwise known as dissecting owl puke! This activity involves dissecting a sanitized owl pellet which contains the skeletal remains of an owl meal. Yum! Every child will leave with a collection of awesome bones that are guaranteed to wow their friends and family with their newfound archaeologist skills.
